Obituary

William (Bill) Dickson King, 75, Heritage Village, Southbury died Saturday, February 5, 2011 at home surrounded by his loving wife, Elizabeth (Betsy) Baxter King, and his three daughters, Katharine Ann King, Leslie Bryant King, and Sandra Dickson King, and his granddaughter, Jennifer King Marks.

Born in Northampton, Massachusetts on May 8, 1935, Bill attended Dartmouth College where he earned a Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering and Business Administration. After graduation, he married his hometown sweetheart, Betsy Baxter, on August 18, 1956.

In 1964, Bill began working for IBM in East Fishkill, New York, eventually becoming Manager of Strategic Planning and Industrial Engineering. He worked at IBM until he retired in 1988 at the age of 53. Following his retirement from IBM, Bill became a travel consultant and Vice President of Five Star Travel in Hopewell Junction, New York, taking full advantage of all the perks that entailed. Following a move to Colorado Springs, Colorado in 1989, Bill became a free lance Senior Management Consultant. After enjoying the western life style for a number of years, Bill and Betsy returned East to Morris in 1994 where they enjoyed horseback riding, hiking in the Litchfield hills, and canoeing. In 1999, they moved to Heritage Village and continued to enjoy travels to exotic lands and wintering in warm places. Bill enjoyed writing enlivened political op-eds for the Waterbury Republican, whether they be on the local Connecticut political scene or more global world politics.

Services: Burial services will be held privately.

Visitation: Calling Hours will be held on Friday February 11th from 3 - 5pm at the Southbury Funeral Home of Munson - Lovetere, 235 Main St. North.
