It is with great sadness the family of William Gerald Lake "Jerry" of Southbury, CT (formerly of Ringwood, NJ) announce his passing on September 2, 2024, at the age of 86.
Jerry grew up in Cliffside Park, NJ and worked as the head lifeguard at Palisades Amusement Park. He attended Trenton State University and was a point guard on the college basketball team. He was a successful businessman, owning several businesses during his life. He started Jerry Lake Mailing Service, Inc. in 1978 and with the help of his family it remained open until his retirement in 2015.
He loved being with his family. Jerry was an avid outdoorsman throughout his life and created lifelong memories with his family and friends while instilling in others the gift of the great outdoors. He organized yearly family canoe trips down the Delaware River, often backpacked into the Adirondack and Catskill Mountains and loved sailing and boating at his former home on Cupsaw Lake. He was always busy in his gardens. He was athletic and loved playing basketball and tennis, sharing his love of the games by giving lessons and coaching. He had a passion for cooking that was reflected in the amazing dishes enjoyed by family and friends. Jerry came from a musical family and appreciated all genres of music, especially Jazz.
He will be greatly missed by his spouse, Christine Flint, his former wife, Ann Lake and their children, Timothy Lake, Kerry Walz and her husband, William, Kelly Rosell and her husband, Al and Gerald Lake and his wife Donielle. He had 6 grandchildren, Timothy Lake, Gerald Lake, Amanda Soto, Michael Rosell, Devin Walz and Dakota Walz. He is survived by his brothers Gregory and Jonathan.
Jerry will be missed by many but not forgotten. His spirit will live on inside all the lives he touched, leaving behind a legacy that will be felt for generations to come.
