Wesley S. Coe (5/1/1912 - 2/4/2013)

Wesley S. Coe, 100, of Southbury, CT, died on Monday, February 4, 2013 at River Glen Health Care Center following a brief illness. He was the beloved husband of Helen (Oniskevich) Coe.
He was born May 1, 1912 in Mount Pleasant, Iowa to the late Laura (Hinkson) Coe and James Roy Coe. Wes graduated magna cum laude from Iowa Weslyan College with a B.S. in Chemistry then continued his education at the University of Illinois, where he earned a Ph.D. in Chemistry in 1936 with various honors including Phi Beta Kappa.
Wes was married to Hazel Zimmerman, and enjoyed life with Hazel and their four children until her death in 1967. Wes was employed by U.S. Rubber Co. which later became Uniroyal. He held several positions in the Naugatuck Chemical Division where he was promoted to executive positions. In 1961, he was chosen to go to Argentina as managing director for Petroquimica Argentina S.A. (PASA) a Uniroyal joint venture with 4 other U.S. companies which built a petrochemical plant with the Argentine government. In 1968, he and Helen married and moved to his next assignment in Bromsgrove, England. Upon retirement they moved to Heritage Village in Southbury, CT. Wes spent many happy hours playing golf and bridge. He was a volunteer ambulance driver for the Heritage Village Ambulance Association for 25 years. Wes was a talented craftsman who enjoyed woodworking. Wes and Helen moved to Pomperaug Woods and continued his love of people and social gatherings. He was a devoted father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and uncle, and treasured sharing special times with family. He always enjoyed a good conversation and shared many of his lifelong experiences with friends. His wisdom and kindness will be missed by all who knew him.
In addition to his wife of 44 years, he leaves behind his daughter, Jean Lee of Walnut Creek, CA, Marge Obst and her husband, Earl, of Plantsville, CT, and son Arthur Coe and his wife, Ann, of Cheshire, CT. He was predeceased by his son, David at age 12. He is also survived by 6 grandchildren, Kevin Lee, Debbie Gairaud, Cindy Butler of California and Tracey Bonvicini, Heather Karpiej, and Gretchen Obst of Connecticut and 7 great grandchildren. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews and their children.

Services: Funeral services will be held Sunday, February 10, 2013 at Southbury Funeral Home of Munson-Lovetere, 235 Main Street South, at 2p.m. *SERVICE CHANGE DUE TO WEATHER CONDITIONS*

Visitation: Calling hours will be held at the funeral home on Sunday, February 10, 2013 from 1-2p.m.
