IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Wendy Lee
Onofrey
August 27, 1942 – July 29, 2025
Woodbury- Wendy Lee Onofrey, 82, passed away on July 29, 2025, at Candlewood Valley Rehabilitation Center in New Milford.
Born on August 27, 1942, in New Haven, Connecticut, Wendy was the daughter of the late Donald Heppinstall and Althea Mohr. She received a traditional education and after graduating high school, went on to become a Ballet Teacher.
She married Robert Onofrey in 1966 in Easton, CT. They settled in Woodbury where they raised one son, John Carten Onofrey. After 15 years of marriage, Robert and Wendy went their separate ways. They remained in touch throughout their lives.
A resident of Woodbury since 1967, Wendy was best known around town as a friendly and dedicated mail carrier for the United States Postal Service. She loved her job and took great pride in serving her community, eventually retiring after a long and fulfilling career.
Wendy was truly one of a kind—a spirited, outgoing person with an unwavering strength who always spoke her mind. She had a unique gift for conversation and a way of making you laugh and would often take the opportunity to chat with anyone she met. She was a dedicated and generous friend who would go out of her way to help those she cared about. Her generous spirit was also seen in her passions; she taught dance, volunteered at her son's school, and even coached little league. She had a deep love for horses that began in her younger years, a time she spent riding and working with them. Wendy found solace in knitting beautiful sweaters for her friends and loved ones. She was also a lifelong fan of the New York Yankees and loved watching them play.
Wendy is survived by her son, John Carten Onofrey.
