Bethlehem -
Mr. Wayne Hubert Ponton of Bethlehem died Friday July 6, 2007 at his home after fighting a courageous battle with cancer. Wayne was born on February 26, 1945 and was 62 years old. He was the son of Richard Ponton and the late Liberty Shirley (Main) Ponton of Danbury.
Wayne Ponton's ancestors came over on the Mayflower. He was related to the Brewsters, the Taylors and the Stars (the founding fathers of New Fairfield and Danbury) as well as P.T. Barnum and Nicholas Knapp who founded Greenwich in 1630.
Wayne Ponton began his career as a commercial photographer and spent many years in the photography business. His work has been in museums and magazines.
Wayne was an avid dog fancier and showed Tibetan Spaniels and Tibetan Terriers under the Batu name. He was an active member of the Tibetan Spaniel Club of America, Newtown Kennel Club and Northwestern Connecticut Dog Club.
Wayne is survived by his wife, Billie Steinbruck - Ponton, his father Richard of Danbury, his brother Richard of Warren, and his sister Joyce of Utah, as well as 1 niece and 1 nephew. A memorial service to celebrate Wayne Ponton's life will be held on _Saturday July 14 at 1 pm at the Christ Episcopal Church in Bethlehem. Burial is at the convenience of the family.
