SOUTHBURY
Business man and artist
Warren Andrew Carlie died Wednesday, September 9, 2009. Mr. Carlie was born November 2, 1931 to Alice and Victor Carlie, and resided in Fordham, NY. He spent his school years in New York City. He attended the School of Industrial Arts and Columbia University and majored in architecture. After working for Mid Western Construction Company, he moved to Pennsylvania and worked on the pipeline. He joined the New York Air National Guard for 11 years, serving in Greenland and had a tour of duty at many air force bases as a non-commissioned officer. Then Warren founded his own company, Hampton Metal and created the designs for his own ornamental iron foundry.
He married Francine and they reared two wonderful sons, Andrew Carlie and Douglas Canter, in their country home in Sherman, CT. Warren organized and served as president of the Sherman Taxpayers Association. He was an avid tennis player and enjoyed inviting his friends and neighbors to weekly games on his clay court. Warren and his wife Fran retired to Heritage Village 13 years ago. Warren served as a member of the Southbury Planning Commission for six years as well as being an MRT volunteer for the Heritage Village Ambulance Association. He also helped distribute food for the Food Bank of Southbury. He was president and cluster captain of his condo in Heritage Village and was an active member of the Southbury Democratic Board. Although he missed his town of Sherman, he appreciated all that Southbury offered, as well as living in Heritage Village.
