Vivian L. Wainwright

Vivian Hanson Wainwright, 90, passed away on Saturday, March 7th, in Southbury, Connecticut.

A resident of Bridgewater for over five decades, Vivian was born at Hartford Hospital to Swedish immigrants Carl and Lilly Hanson on August 13th, 1934. She grew up in Wethersfield, CT and earned her bachelor's degree from the University of Hartford. Vivian married Edgar Richard Wainwright on September 19, 1964, at Emanuel Lutheran Church in Hartford. Vivian’s Christian faith was the cornerstone of her life, shaping her values and actions across the years. Her devotion extended deeply to her family, as she lovingly dedicated herself to their well-being and to the preservation of their historic home which she and her husband Ed purchased in 1975.

This home served as the hub for Vivian’s tireless role as a devoted wife, nurturing mother, joyful grandmother, and community volunteer. Vivian served on the Region 12 Board of Education for Region 12 and later as the Bridgewater Registrar of Voters. Her work experience included several administrative positions, most notably serving as Export Manager at Berol in Danbury, Connecticut responsible for overseeing worldwide shipments of the Eagle #2 pencil.

Her hobbies and passions included travel, baking, weaving, gardening, knitting, and was an exceptional cook and host for anyone who visited her home.

Vivian is survived by her husband Ed, her sons Andy and Mark, her daughter-in-law Laura, and grandchildren Charlie, Emily, Jensen, and Sam. She was preceded in death by her sister, Marjorie Hanson.

Services will be held on Saturday, May 2 at 10:30 am at St. Mark's Episcopal Church in Bridgewater. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in honor of Vivian to Ridgefield Visiting Nurse Association at RVNA.
