Obituary

Vivian Gieseler Forrer, 94, of Southbury died Monday March 4th, 2013 at her home at Pomperaug Woods. She was the wife of the late Edward Forrer.
Mrs. Forrer was born in Jamaica, New York on September 4, 1918, the daughter of the late Frederick and Dora (Eisenhower) Gieseler. After graduating from Brooklyn Girl's High School at age 14, she attended Miss Dunbar's Secretarial School in Brooklyn. The following year she started work at the Eaton Paper Company in New York City. In 1940 she met her future husband Edward Forrer and June 28, 1941 they were married. The next year Ed entered the US Army serving in the Pacific until early 1946. Following World War II, they moved to New Hyde Park, New York where, in 1954, together they opened the first independent insurance adjuster office on Long Island. Following business success, in 1966, they moved to Kent, Connecticut where they opened an antiques shop on route 7, a business they both loved. They later moved the shop into Kent proper. Following Edward's passing in 1997, Vivian continued the business until moving to Pomperaug Woods in 2003.
While at Pomperaug Woods, she remained very active - serving on various committees and enjoying many hours of scrabble and bridge with new friends.
She is survived by her son, Stephen and his wife Audrey; three granddaughters - Kim, Amy and her husband Erik; Kate and her husband Gabe, and most importantly, 5 great grandchildren; AJ (16), Elsa (4), Olin (4), Will (almost 4) and Anna (almost 2).
