(nee Smith), she was born in Waterbury, CT on February 13, 1923. Devoted mother of Peter (Vivien) Shaw, Ruth E. Shaw, William B. Shaw, Mary (Donald) Winslow, and Jesse (Janet) Shaw. Cherished grandmother of Kristen (Daniel) Holligan, Holly L. Shaw, Eric W. Shaw, Edward A. C. Winslow, Robin (Mary) Riley, Johanna (Travers) Evans, Ian (Bobbie) Riley, Bradford (Amanda) Shaw, Gordon C. Shaw, Alexander P. Shaw, and Emma M. Shaw. Great-grandmother of 8. Dear sister of the late Herbert (Dorothy) S. Root, Jr., the late Mildred (Joseph) Stevens, and Allan (Betty) Root. Virginia graduated from Crosby High School (Waterbury, CT), Arcadia University (formerly Beaver College), and Pratt Institute (1947 with degree in Library Science). She worked for twenty-two years as a librarian at Cornell University, especially in Mann Library. She resided for many years in Waterbury, CT, Ithaca, NY, Lexington, KY, and Madeira, OH. Funeral service was held on October 27, 2013 at Old Armstrong Chapel, Indian Hill, OH 45243.
