Obituary

Virginia Schick Federer, known to many as Ginnie, passed away Friday, November 20, 2009. She was 89 years old. Virginia was an 8 year resident at The Watermark at East Hill Woods, Southbury, CT. She died at the Watermark after a long illness.

Ginnie was born June 2, 1920 in Newark, NJ, to Adela Minnie Hannoch and Harry C. Schick. She had one brother, Robert who passed away in 1969. Virginia grew up briefly in Irvington, NJ and then in Madison, NJ where she attended Madison Academy. She graduated from St. Elizabeth's School, Convent, NJ and worked briefly in Manhattan. She loved to play the piano for friends and family. We loved to listen and sing along.

On June 10, 1949, she married Robert Joseph Federer, son of Anton Joseph Federer and Susan Aldeo Federer. They settled in Madison, NJ. In 1952, Robert and Virginia had a son, Eric. Ginnie became a homemaker and worked as a volunteer at Morristown Memorial Hospital, Morristown, NJ. She was awarded The Hospital's highest volunteer service award for her decades of service. Virginia also participated in fundraising for Morristown Memorial Hospital and was active in both the Madison and New Vernon Presbyterian Churches, where she and Robert donated Sunday flowers for many years.

Ginnie is survived by her son, Eric Anton Federer and his wife Wendy Read Federer of Washington, CT. Eric is a Nurse Practitioner (APRN) at Torrington-Winsted-Canton Pediatrics and Wendy is partner at Kernan and Henry Law Firm, Southbury, CT.

Wendy and Eric would like to thank Roxa Canovaca; the entire staff at the Wartermark at East Hill Woods; Casey Ott, MD and Virginia (Ginger) Hannon, APRN at Southbury Geriatric Center; Barbara LeBlanc, RN, Michael Covault, LCSW and Reverend Rose Tressel of Connecticut Hospice; Roger Young, pianist; Ruth Carter and Barbara Hamlin.

Ginnie's warm smile, sense of humor and spirit of kindness will be missed by many. We are grateful for her long and fulfilling life and for the love and music she shared with friends and family.
