Obituary

WOODBURY- Virginia(Scoville) Cser, 92, died Wednesday night, December 15, 2010. She was the daughter of Oscar Scoville and Olivine (Rainville) Scoville."Ginny" was born January 5, 1918 in Forestville, CT.Her mother died in the Flu Epidemic of 1918 before Ginny was one year old. Ginny was then raised by her grandparents Edward and Grace Scoville in South Britain. She attended the one room school there and graduated Woodbury H.S. in 1935.

She worked in the Southbury Post Office (it was located in Tyler's Store then) in the late 30's through the war years. She didn't need a car to commute because the Post Master was Evangeline Cassidy who lived nearby in South Britain and provided rides for her only assistant. The Post Office was close to Bullet Hill School that she could walk over to take pictures of the downstairs students, grades 1-4, for teacher/friend Doris Hotchkiss, in 1937 and 11938. Ginny is remembered for generous gifts to younger cousins during those terrible late years of the depression (5 of us in 3 families). Ginny always took pictures and also liked to write, corresponding with friends and providing typing and editing for other, including a writer from the Russian Village.

Her workplace then shifted to the Southbury Training School as a secretary for a span of about 35 years. She married Alexander Cser in 1948 in the South Britain Congregational Church. They spent a week in Florida in January 1949 where Al attended a professional umpires school. They settled in Roxbury where parenting became the main focus. Ginny became a member of the Roxbury Church and the 100 year old Shepaug Club. She loved to preserve food grown by Al in their garden; and to play Scrabble with visiting cousins. Her writing included much poetry at this period, some of it preserved in a daily diary.

Al died in 1964. Ginny moved to Woodbury later and worked in the Building Official's office from April 1982 through November 1984. When she quit, Joe Berger, the Building Official was stunned, "she was perfect", he said. Ginny had worked for nearly 50 years and said"that was enough".

She lived in the Woodbury's Spruce Bank Senior Housing since 1990. Her final months were made very pleasant by an unusually thoughtful care giver. Ginny looked better with her hair done, etc. and was absolutely beaming about everything that was being done for her and how lucky she was. This when being visited only two and half days before she died.

Her survivors include her only sibling, Kenneth Scoville, 94, Ellenton, FL; her two children Sanford Cser, Witchita, KS and Jacqueline Cser, Malvern, IA; a much appreciated daughter in-law, Cheryl (Jensen Cser) Meyer, Dearborn Heights, MI; and grand children, Paul Cser and his wife Tiphaine of Westland, MI, Adrienne Cser of Oakland Park; and six great grandchildren; Megan, Rachel, Charles and Emily Cser and Jewels and Mia Wright; a niece and several cousins.
