Southbury – Virginia Cloos passed away on May 20, 2024 at her home in Southbury. She was born in Jamaica, NY on August 9, 1925 to Phillip and Hilda Wagner.
After a brief career working as an administrative assistant for a financial broker on Wall Street, Virginia made raising her family her full-time job. In 1969, Virginia, together with her husband, Fredrick R. Cloos ("Bob"), and their two children moved to Roxbury, CT.
After retiring, Virginia and Bob moved to South Carolina where they enjoyed playing golf, volunteering, and traveling. After Bob's passing in 1995, Virginia moved back to Connecticut where she volunteered at the Glebe House in Woodbury, the Southbury Food Bank and, along with her daughter, the Quality Thrift Store in Kent. She also continued to travel and celebrated her 80th birthday by taking a balloon ride in Africa.
Virginia had a creative eye, a 'can-do' attitude and made lasting friends wherever she went.
Virginia is survived by her son, Robert Cloos, two grandchildren, Christopher Simmons and his wife Pam, and Barbara Deitz and her husband Ken, four great grandchildren and son in law Ronald Simmons. She was predeceased by Fredrick Cloos, her husband of 45 years, and her daughter, Diane Simmons.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, June 15, 2024 at 11:00 am at South Cemetery in Bridgewater. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Shriners Children's Hospital (lovetotherescue.org).
