Vincent F. Jarvis, Jr., 78, of Oxford, CT, formerly of Bethel CT, died Thursday, June 15 at Danbury Hospital.

Vincent is survived by his devoted wife of 33 years, Denise Meany, his loving son, Christopher V. Jarvis of Bethel and daughter Tracy Dawn Tardif, his nieces, Michelle and Allison Mitchell, cousins, Bill Clements and Claudia Haynes Janey, and very special childhood friend Matt (Sonny) Carrington. Vincent was predeceased by his parents, Vincent F., Sr. and Dorothy Jarvis and by his sister and brother-in-law, Roberta and Allen Mitchell. In addition, he will be greatly missed by his many Meany sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews.

Always an accomplished athlete, Vincent played baseball in the Minor Leagues after high school, in 1957.  Sixty years later his name is still listed among a short list of local stars who played at Fraser Field in Lynn, MA.

After college, Vincent began his professional career at MIT in Cambridge, MA. Later he moved to Connecticut with colleagues who founded one of the first computer timesharing companies, National CSS, a company that was later acquired by Dun & Bradstreet. Vincent's later years took him to the Midwestern Connecticut Council on Alcoholism (MCCA). In both of these companies he functioned as Director of Computer Operations and Director of Human Resources. Retiring in 2001, Vincent spent the next 12 years at what he called his "perfect retirement job," at Hertz in Danbury, doing what he loved best, driving cars.

Vincent touched so many lives with his kindness and wisdom. He was always ready with a smile, a tease or a word of advice for those who sought it from him. He will be sorely missed!

During the last few years of his life, Vincent's leukemia required him to have numerous transfusions. For that reason, his family requests that, if you are able, you make a blood donation in his name at a local Red Cross blood drive.

In lieu of flowers, contributions are requested to The SCOTTY Fund (PO Box 1080, Bethel, CT 06801) which provides meals, childcare, transportation, help with daily chores, and financial support to families of critically ill children.

Services of remembrance will include calling hours from 4-8 pm on Thursday, June 22 at Munson-Lovetere, 235 Main Street North, Southbury, Mass at St. Thomas the Apostle RC Church, 733 Oxford Rd, Oxford on Friday, June 23 at 11 am, followed by a Memorial Luncheon at noon at The Golf Course at Oxford Greens.
