IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Velma
Courtland
October 25, 1940
Velma M. Courtland passed away peacefully in Wallingford, CT on Monday March 31st, 2025. She was born in Philadelphia, PA on October 25th, 1940. Velma had a varied career which began as an assistant in the famous NYC music studio Cameo Parkway Records. Innately savvy with business management, she moved up the chain to become Vice President of the record company which produced numerous rock and roll hits. The final version of the dance for Chubby Checker's "The Twist" is a result of Velma's recommended modifications. In the middle of her life, Velma changed her career to teaching. She taught preschool science and nature for many years before becoming licensed as a real estate agent in New York State. During these times she volunteered as president of her local residential community, Windmill Farms, to support social, environmental and structural stability for over 300 homeowners. Later in life, while retired, Velma continued her community service as a condo board President in Heritage Village where she once again worked to support social, environmental and structural stability for neighboring homeowners.
In addition to being a gifted business manager, teacher, and community service woman, Velma was a beloved wife, mother and friend. She is survived by her son Hayden-William. Velma was the epitome of selflessness, kindness and compassion and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
A private burial ceremony will take place on Saturday, April 5th, 2025, at 1pm. Email hayden.courtland@gmail.com for more information.
