Obituary

Thomas Allen James
August 18, 1936 - January 7, 2016

Born August 18, 1936 in Kenosha Wisconsin, Thomas A. James passed away on January 7th.. He was a life-long resident of Westchester Country and lived for 40 years in Katonah, a town he loved and a home in which he was immeasurably happy - 6 Susan Place.

Tom grew up in Crestwood and attended Roosevelt High School and went on to Nichols College in Massachusetts. His enduring love through all those years...baseball. Tom was a great baseball player, even tried out for the Yankees. He pitched to his sons as soon as they could walk and coached them for well over a decade -through Little League and beyond- and never cared whether they won, lost, struck out, or hit a home run. He was a great dad.

Tom also served in the Army, a member of the Military Police stationed in postwar Germany. Returning to the states, he met Mary Kate (Maureen) Meehan, the true love of his life, and they were married in June, 1960. They enjoyed 50 years of friendship and marriage before Maureen died in 2010. They had two sons, Tom and Rick.

Thomas James had a successful career in Manhattan as the New York Sales manager for Advertising Age, never working more than a block or two from Grand Central Station. However, his love for his family gave him his greatest pleasures. In later years he lived for his faith in Christ, and this made him a precious (funny, caring, cranky, giving, loving, annoying) Saint.

He will be missed by his sons, Tom and Rick, as well as his two daughter-in-laws, Kate and Rose, and three grandchildren: Avery, Whitney, and Will.
