Obituary

Terry Melvin passed away peacefully on June 6, 2018 in Southbury, CT.  Born on July 14, 1933, in West Hartlepool England, he led an amazing life. He would tell us tales of bombers passing over his town during WWII and his father sneaking off the army base without leave to bring him to the cinema on the weekends.  He was "Top of the Town" as a young student, graduated from University in Birmingham, and went on to be a Research Chemist for Uniroyal then Spalding, specializing in golf balls.  A "Captain of Industry" he would say in jest.  Although he held many patents for his work, he was ever humble saying he could not have done half of what he did without the help of those who worked with him.

Terry brought his family to America in 1966,  so that we could live the better life that the U.S. could offer.  Arriving by ship with only his family and two steamer chests, he had a new start and made the best of all this country had to offer.

He traveled the world, stepping on six of seven continents - Antarctica is just too cold.   Some travel was business and some was pleasure, but he always brought his wife, Marina, the love of his life, with him so they could see the world together.  His second love was his guitar.  He played in pubs as a young man and with family and friends as he settled down to family life: a song, or two, before bedtime please.

The last few years he has been surrounded by family: his daughter Ruth, her husband Cory, grandchildren Kim and Andy, Kim's husband Chris and great-grandchildren Liam, Sophie and Jacob.  We enjoyed weekly dinner with all four generations and a family vacation each summer.  Just spending time together was very important.

Terry was a great thinker with a gentle soul and a generous heart.  He is now at rest with Marina, and daughter Helen.  He will be sorely missed and fondly remembered by all.

Services will be held at 11:00 on Wednesday June 20 at the North Cemetery in Woodbury, CT.   In lieu of flowers please donate to your local Animal Shelter or Food Bank. Munson Lovetere Funeral Home assisted with the arrangements.
