Obituary

Shirley Savo, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, & friend, passed away peacefully after a brief illness on September 7th, 2024 at Waterbury Hospital. She was 89, though she would tell you she's "only 68." Born August 23rd, 1935 in New Haven, Connecticut, Shirley was predeceased by her parents Julia and Henry Kalisciak and her brother Carl Manemeit. She is survived by her sister, Patricia Church.

Shirley was known for her immense love of animals; from her many cat companions to the dozens of robins that made their homes in the bird feeders and baths she maintained for them. Shirley was a true friend and champion to all wildlife, and she instilled that love in her family as well. A graduate of Wilbur Cross High School in New Haven. Shirley was a prolific and talented figure skater & performed regularly at the New Haven ice arena. She lived an active life, enjoying many years of golfing and nearly 9 decades of swimming. Professionally, Shirley worked as a bookkeeper at SNET and later as a payroll clerk for Klarides Supermarkets until her retirement.

Shirley was devoted to her family and regularly enjoyed cooking and baking, especially for her grandchildren whom she doted on. Shirley will be immensely missed by her husband of 66 years, Michael Savo of Southbury CT. Her son, Mike and daughter-in-law Marcia of Woodbury, her daughter, Nancy Duprey and son-in-law John Duprey of Naugatuck, her beloved grandchildren, Ashley Duprey-Ayers, her husband Caleb Ayers, Maxwell Savo, and Rebecca Duprey, as well as the many family pets whom Shirley adored.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held on September 11th, 2024 at 10:00 AM at Saint Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Oxford, Connecticut with a private burial to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Shirley's memory to Whiskers Pet Rescue in Southbury CT.
