Shirley Garrigus McIlroy, 94, died September 19, 2015. She was the widow of Leonard James McIlroy. She was a long-time resident of Southbury.
Mrs. McIlory was born on December 21, 1920, daughter of William H. and Dorothy B. Garrigus, in Waterbury. Her brother Townsend W. Garrigus and her sister Mary G. Eyre were pre-deceased. She leaves two stepsons, Leonard H. and David J. McIlroy of Colorado, and a niece Sandra G. Keefe and her son, Jeremy Jason Keefe, both of Arizona. She also leaves two nephews Bear Eyre, of North Carolina and Harry D. Eyre, Jr. of Hewitt, Texas.
Mrs. McIlroy and her husband had many interests - both traveling throughout the United States and several other countries. Many of their other interests were their respective families, historical places, concerts, fairs, military and special events, etc. They traveled extensively to little known places, which were always a pleasant surprise.
Both Mr. and Mrs. McIlroy were life members of George Newton Post 1607 Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Mrs. McIlroy was a member of the South Britain Congregational Church. She was active in local and national organizations. Among them were the Public Health Nursing Association of Southbury and Roxbury, Northwest. Tuberculosis Association, Waterbury Branch of National Secretaries Association, National Audubon Society, Charter member of the National Museum of the Indian, Genealogy Society. She was also a charter member of the Southbury Historical Society of which she was a founder and president until her retirement.

Services: A funeral service will take place Thursday, September 24 at 11: 00am at the South Britain Congregational Church, 693 South Britain Rd, Southbury with burial following at Old Pine Grove Cemetery, 390 Meriden Rd. Waterbury.
