PROVIDENCE - Shirley Elenor Korte, formerly of Southbury, Connecticut, died August 12 at Goldencrest Nursing Home in Southington after a long illness. She was the wife of the late Herbert F. Korte.
Mrs. Korte was born on Nov. 4, 1922, in Hamden, Connecticut, daughter of the late Mr. Godfrey E. and Mrs. Dorothy (Rawles) Romberg. Mrs. Korte and her husband moved to Heritage Village in Southbury, Connecticut, in 1984 after being long-time residents of the Hamden/New Haven area.
She graduated from Hamden High School in 1940, accompanied her missionary husband and her children to Korea from 1956 to 1959, and was active in the establishment of W.I.H.S. FM radio station in Middletown, Connecticut, and in the Heritage Village Condominium association. She was also very active in church work and visited the Holy Land several times.
She is survived by two daughters, Susan in Providence and Judy in Hamden; a son, Robert, in Reston, Virginia; a sister, Mrs. Miriam O'Connell of Providence, Rhode Island; four grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
Arrangements were made by Southbury Funeral Home of Munson-Lovetere, 235 Main St. North, and a private burial was held at Pine Hill Cemetery in Southbury. To honor and remember her life, a memorial gathering and celebration will be held in Southbury on her birthday, November 4.
