Sharon (Pochron) Taylor, 56, of 21 Orchard Lane, Woodbury, died Sunday, June 24 at Waterbury Hospital after a brief illness. She was the wife of Robert G. Taylor.
Mrs. Taylor was born in Waterbury on February 23, 1951, the daughter of the late Frank and Helen (Tamoski) Pochron. She attended elementary, middle and high school in Seymour. She received a Bachelor's degree from Albertus Magnus University and Master's and Doctoral degrees in biochemistry from Boston University. She has worked as a Clinical Chemist and Laboratory Supervisor at Hospitals in New York City and Westchester County, NY. Since 1991 she has served on the staff of Phelps Memorial Hospital in Sleepy Hollow, NY and was currently Director of the Clinical Laboratory at Phelps. Since moving to Woodbury in 1992, Sharon has been an active member of St. Teresa of Avila parish in Woodbury. She was past president of St. Teresa's Women's Guild, past Secretary of the Pastoral Council and the Stewardship Council, and coordinator of the parish Welcoming Ministry. She founded the Social Justice Ministry at St. Teresa's and served for the past three years as St. Teresa's Volunteer Captain for the Woodbury interfaith AmeriCares HomeFront projects in Waterbury and Watertown. For more than a decade, Sharon was an active adult volunteer supporting St. Teresa's Youth Choir and Youth Ministry, participating in the parish Youth Mission in Grafton, W. VA., in July 2006, and the planning committee for the July 2007 Bridge to the Light Mission to Children of the Light in La Ceiba, Honduras. She has also served as a member of the Stewardship Core Group, lector and social outreach ministries, and the Children of the Light committee.
Besides her husband she is survived by a daughter Catherine Taylor of Woodbury.
A Mass of Christian burial will take place on Friday June 29th at 10am at St. Teresa's Church, Main St. S., Woodbury. Burial is private.
