Mr. Seymour Abel, 80, of Heritage Village died Monday November 24, 2008 at The Lutheran Home of Southbury. He was the husband of Victoria (Tocci) Abel.
Mr. Abel was born in New York City on January 29, 1928 the son of Bertha (Glasser) Abfal of Phoenix, AZ and the late Maxwell Abfal. He had served in the Coast Guard during WWII and was retired as Senior License Investigator in the State of New York after many years of service. He also incorporated the laws requiring the labeling of mattress contents. Previously living in Kew Gardens, NY he moved to Southbury in 1996. Mr. Abel volunteered his services at the Regina Laudis Gift Shop in Bethlehem and enjoyed the arts, music, theatre and Broadway shows. He was a soft spoken and kind gentleman who gave selflessly of himself to his friends and had a wonderful sense of humor. He was also a volunteer auxillary police and member of the Knights of Tythiais.
Besides his wife and mother, he is survived by his six grandchildren, one great granddaughter and his adoptive family, Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Maceli and family of Roxbury, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Barnes and family of Southbury, Mr. and Mrs. Kevin Ross and family of North Carolina and Sandra Maceli and family of Waterbury and his daughter Nancy Cooper of Boston, MA,
Services were held privately. Burial was in Pine Hill Cemetery, Southbury. The Southbury Funeral Home of Munson - Lovetere, 235 Main St. North was in charge of arrangements.
