Obituary

Selma Kusebauch, 94, died peacefully, Sunday, August 12, at Pomperaug Woods, where she had
lived for several years. Born Selma Sylvia Eron on October 26, 1912,
she grew up in New York City and completed her undergraduate studies at
Barnard College, subsequently earning a Master's Degree in French. Her
father, Joseph Eli Eron, founded the Eron Preparatory School on the
Lower East Side, which helped immigrants prepare for high school and
college studies. Selma, called Mutzie by her family, taught high
school in New York City but her first love was always art. During her
years in Greenwich Village, she participated in the art scene both as a
painter and gallery owner. Her first marriage to Bernard Ehrenpreis,
a physician, ended in divorce. A second husband, Lou Scall, an
artist, died soon after they were wed. Her last marriage was to
Alexander Kusebauch, a Commander in the USNR. They were residents of
Heritage Village in Southbury until his death. Her sister, Ruth
Linder, is deceased. As she requested, Selma will be cremated and her
ashes buried at the Pine Hill Cemetery in Southbury, with her husband, Alex. A small
graveside gathering will take place on Sunday at 1:00 PM. Selma is
survived by her cousins, who will remember her style and keen, honest
wit with great affection.
