Obituary

Southbury - Sanford G. Tschauder 83 of Southbury died Saturday August 11, 2007 at his home at River Glen in Southbury. He was the husband of June (Hinson) Tschauder, and a life long resident of Southbury.

Mr. Tschauder was born August 5, 1924, the son of the late George and Jennie (Lautenschlager) Tschauder of Southbury

Mr. Tschauder attend the one room school at Pierce Hollow and Bullet Hill School in Southbury. He attended Woodbury High School and graduated from Seymour High School. Upon graduation he began work for Seymour Manufacturing Company in the casting shop and foundry for 27 years. He retired from the Southbury Training School in 1984 after 18 years. Mr. Tschauder enlisted in the Navy in 1944 and served on the USS Burleson and USS Jason as a Gunners mate 2nd Class participating in the invasion of Okinawa in April, 1945 and a tour of Korea and China. Sanford was a member of the Southbury Volunteer Fire Department for sixty-five years, a member of the local Newton VFW Post 1607 and Southbury Woodbury Rod and Gun Club. He was a special Game Warden for the town of Southbury for years.
Mr. Tschauder enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping with his family. He spent much of his leisure time in Maine and called Molasses Pond in Eastbrook his second home.

In addition to his wife June, of 60 years, he is survived by his daughter Joy Hodge and husband Philo B. Hodge of Roxbury, CT. The Hodge children Cory and Beth Hodge and daughters Megan, Lindsey and Riley of Lewisville, PA, Darby and Marianne Hodge of Wolcott, CT, Aaron and Megan Hodge and daughters Katherine and Amanda of Roxbury, CT, Bonnie Hodge and her daughter Jade Stewart of Middletown, CT and Ellyn Hodge of Newark, DE. He leaves a son Todd C. Tschauder and his wife Coleen of Bethlehem, CT. Their children Sandra and Jason Stankiewicz and daughters Brianna and Nicole of Thomaston, CT, Sharon and Jim Yuan of Westport, CT and daughter Kylee Tschauder of Bethlehem, CT. A sister Gladys Burdick and husband Charles of Woodbury and nephews Mark and David Burdick. Mr. Tschauder was predeceased by his son Lee M. Tschauder, whose children Rebecca Tschauder and Keenan Tschauder reside in Portland, CT with their mother Noreen Gerard.

Arrangements: Calling hours Thursday August 16, 2007 from 5-8 pm at the Munson-Lovetere Funeral Home, 235 Main Street North in Southbury. Funeral Service will be at the South Britain Congregation Church Friday, August 17th at 10 am. Burial will follow at Pine Hill Cemetery in Southbury with military honors.
