Porter, Ruth D.
Ruth D. Porter, of Middlebury, passed away Monday (October 26, 2015) after battling an illness for many years. Ruth was the loving wife of David Porter for 61 years. David passed away September 13, 2013. Daughter of Pearl and Byron Delaney, Ruth was born September 23, 1928 in Mount Morris, Pennsylvania. Ruth met the love of her life, David, at US Steel Works. They then moved to Connecticut where they raised a family of four. She was a loving mother to Cynthia, Philip, Douglas, and Suzanne. She was an avid golfer, tennis player, and gardener. She was always on the sidelines encouraging her children during their sporting activities including wrestling, golf, soccer, tennis, field hockey, and horseback riding. Ruth was a founding member of the Tribury Racquet Club and a member of the Highfield Country club for over 40 years. She was also a member of the Middlebury Congregational Church. Ruth is survived by her children, Philip Porter and wife Shelley and their children Christopher and Chelsea of Southbury, Douglas Porter and wife Susan and his children Katherine and husband Ryan Ascenzo, Stephen and wife Lauren and Ellen of Simsbury, and Suzanne Porter Lavoie of Bantam and her children Bruce and wife Nicole, René© and husband Matthew Albee, and Carly. Great grandchildren are Grant Ascenzo and Leah Porter. Ruth was predeceased by her husband David, daughter Cynthia, and son-in-law Robert Lavoie. The family would like to thank the special people who cared for Ruth the past few years that touched her in a special way, especially her granddaughter Carly. A memorial will be held on Saturday, November 14, 2015 from 12-3p.m. at Highfield Country Club for both Ruth and David Porter. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Campership Fund of Waterbury. The Woodbury Funeral Home of Munson-Lovetere are in charge of the arrangements.
