Ruth Margrill Dahl Pollini, 81, of Southbury, passed away on Monday, October 29, 2012 at Danbury Hospital, after a 4 month bout with acute leukemia, with her loving family around her.
Ruth was born on September 17, 1931 in Mt. Vernon, New York to Magnus and Agnes (Nyholm) Dahl. Because of the depression, they returned to Vaasa, Finland, her mother's home town, when she was 6 months old. They returned to the United States at age 6 and she was educated in New York City schools. After high school she went to work for Sinclair Oil Company in Rocker Feller Center in New York City. She attained the position of executive secretary.
Ruth married Charles P. Pollini of Pollini's Restaurant Family of New York City and Voghera, Italy on November 7, 1954. They moved to Dobbs Ferry, New York in Westchester County in 1957 where she was a mother and housewife. They had two girls, Lisa Elena and Cara Ruth. In 1961, her husband Charles opened Pollini's Ristorante in Briar Cliff Manor, New York. It became a hot spot for movie stars and TV celebrities.
In 1965 they moved from Dobbs Ferry to Briarcliff Manor and stayed there 28 years and schooled their girls there. After the death of her daughter Cara by a hit and run driver at 18 years of age, Ruth went back to the business world. She opened a tea room and catering business in Bronxville, New York with the name of "Scarbourgh Fair". She ran it for 8 years with her two partners. In 1991 Ruth and Charles, with daughter Lisa Elena, married with children now, retired to Southbury, Connecticut. Ruth had a bout with cancer but conquered it.
She was predeceased by her daughter, Cara and grandson, Connor O'Hagan. Her family mourns her passing. In addition to her loving husband, her daughter, Lisa Murphy and husband Brian, grandson Brian O'Hagan and wife Catherine and great granddaughter Caroline, grandson Sean O'Hagan, granddaughter Kelly Hannon and husband Michael, two great grandsons, Charles Michael age 5 and Liam Thomas age 1, granddaughter Kathleen O'Hagan, Brother in law, Ronald Pollini and wife Rosalie of Hoover, Alabama and niece, Alison Pollini of Princeton, New Jersey.
