Ruth Sheim Agin, 94, of East Hill Woods died Thursday, May 5 at Waterbury Hospital. She was predeceased by her loving husband Robert J. Agin.
Mrs. Agin was born August 10, 1921 in Ridgewood Queens, N.Y.C., the daughter of the late Fred and Gussie (Lobel) Sheim. She graduated from Queens College with a BA in English and a Masters in Library Science. As librarian of Flushing High School, she was able to surround herself with books and to pass on to her students her enthusiasm for language arts and love of literature. She was a Life Member of Hadassah and was past secretary, president, and county delegate of her Queens chapter. She volunteered as a reader for Recordings for the Blind.
Retiring to Heritage Village in 1991, she was a founding member of Temple B'nai Israel of Southbury, a member of its Sisterhood and continued her life-long participation in Hadassah. A trained fashion design artist, she continued to draw into her eighties and entered her work in many Heritage Village art shows. Other interests included opera, theater literature, and language arts, knitting, sewing, and stained glass. She was a member of the Heritage Village Happy Tappers.
She leaves two sons, Elliot and his wife Carol, of Woodbridge, and Sam Agin and his wife, Beth, of Howell, N.J.; her brother-in-law Fred Agin; four grandchildren Jonathan, Matthew, Robyn and Mark; great grandson Eli, many nephews, nieces and great nephews and nieces.
