Roy Arnold Erickson born Nov 6, 1917 in Brooklyn, NY to Swedish immigrants, died Tuesday, March 13th, at his residence, the Watermark at East Hill, in Southbury, CT. He came to Connecticut, from Long Island, NY, in 1965, and resided in Ridgefield, CT. He subsequently lived in Sandy Hook before coming to Southbury.
He was a graduate of Erasmus High School in Brooklyn, NY and was employed, most recently, as a Manufacturing Engineer by the Perkin-Elmer Corporation, in Danbury, until his retirement in approximately 1980.
Roy was a world class speed skating champion who won countless medals and major trophies from Silver Skates Champion in 1940 thru the Race of Champions in 1946. His love of sports often found him actively engaged on the four-wall handball courts, and later in life, the indoor racket ball courts. He also thoroughly enjoyed the game of golf. He had an ear for music having played trumpet and baritone horn in his earlier years, and later the piano. Roy attained the level of Life Master, a distinctive accomplishment in the world of Bridge, and ran duplicate Bridge games in Ridgefield for many years.
His is survived by his daughter, Lynn Erickson of Center Conway, NH, and (her daughter) grand-daughter Amy Carrier of Georgetown, VA; son and daughter-in-law, Alan and Virginia Erickson of Bethlehem, CT; grandson and his wife, Kyle and Kelly Erickson of Ashland, MA; grand-daughter and her husband, Cari and James Brandt of Woodbury, CT; and great-grand-daughters Paige and Karli Brandt.
Memorials: In lieu of flowers, a contribution to a charity of your choice, in his name, would be most appreciated.

Services: A private burial will take place on Saturday.
Visitation: Calling hours will be held at the Southbury Funeral Home of Munson-Lovetere, 235 Main Street North, from 5: 00 - 7: 00pm on Friday, March 23, 2012.
