(Ron) Schaefer
February 22, 1930 – July 18, 2015
Ronald Robert (Ron) Schaefer entered into eternal rest at 2:45 PM on July 18, 2015 in Cheyenne, WY. He was born February 22, 1930, to Hans Auguste and Bertha (Wagner) Schaefer of Cromwell, CT. He attended Middletown High School and served his country honorably during the Korean War. Upon returning home, he attended the University of Hartford and received a degree in Chemistry. He joined the American Legion Post #105 in Cromwell in 1955 and quickly became active. He held all positions on the Post and District level and met his wife, Helene Hirsch, in 1960. They were married in 1962 and remained married until her death in 2005. Ronald served two years as District Commander of the 7th District, American Legion. He is survived by his daughter, Past Department President American Legion Auxiliary Department of Connecticut, Joan Schaefer Poach, his son in law Richard T. Poach and his grandson Aiden Kenneth Goodwin, all of Cheyenne, WY. Although moving to Cheyenne with the family in 2014, he remained a member of Cromwell Post #105 American Legion, making him a 60 year member. Please be prepared to share a memory of Ron during calling hours.
