Obituary


Robert Francis Walleck, aged 83, of Woodbury, CT passed from this life at Waterbury Hospital on Thursday, March 28th, 2013, from complications while undergoing treatment for lymphoma.
He was born January, 25th to the late Frank J. Walleck and Maryan I. McClain in Bellevue, PA.
After graduation from High School, he joined the US Army in 1947, and completed his Army Service 1951.He attended RPI and taught Drexel before completing his Army Reserve Service in 1953.Also in 1953 he married Janet Bookstaver. Together they had three sons. In 1954 he joined IBM as an Engineer, retiring as an executive 1989. In 1983 he married Joan Smith-Walleck and began a long and loving relationship with her three children.
His life was one of Service to his country, his community and his church, with deep dedication to his family.
He is a member of the First Congregational Church of Woodbury, and served on the Woodbury Wetlands commission. He served with both the State and National Red Cross Disaster Services, from Guam to the east Coast.
While living in Yorktown NY he was the Vice President of the School Board, the Scoutmaster of Troop 165 (Order of the Arrow), and an Elder of the First Presbyterian Church. From his early adulthood he has been a member of Masonic Lodge in Pennsylvania. The mottoes of the organizations he joined guided his life; 'That they may all be one' 'Be Prepared' and 'Together we can save a life'.
He loved his family, friends and colleagues, sharing his wit and wisdom as the occasion arose. He was a dedicated fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers and the UCONN Women's Basketball team. Throughout his life he celebrated the wonders of nature and traveled widely and often with Joan and frequently attended Elder Hostels. He lived his life with vitality and spirit that touched all who knew him and many who never will.
He is survived by his wife Joan Smith Walleck, his children; Jeff (Astrid) Walleck(Alexandria,VA), Scott (Kelly) Walleck (HopewellJunction, NY), Keith Walleck (Yorktown, NY) , his step-children Martha Straw (Bismarck,ND),Tom (Melinda) Kruper (O'Fallon,MO), and Curtis Kruper (Boulder,CO), his brother, Frank (Marsha) Walleck(North Wales,PA),eight grandchildren, a cousin,three nieces and two nephews. He leaves behind dear friends from Hawaii to Germany.
He is predeceased by his sister Helen Rose Edwards.

Services: A memorial service will be held at the First Congregational Church in Woodbury, CT at 2pm on Saturday April 13th, 2013.
