IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Robert L.
Voepel
April 18, 1927 – July 9, 2013
Robert L. Voepel, 86, of Southbury, died Tuesday July 9, 2013 at Waterbury Hospital. He was the widower of Pauline (Nardone) Voepel.
Mr. Voepel was born on April 18, 1927 in the Bronx, NY. He was the son of Lawrence E. Voepel and Irene Loretta Lee. He attended Columbia University and was a World War II army veteran drafted June 15, 1945. He served with the 682nd Port Company in Naples Italy and later with the 88th Infantry Division in Northern Italy as an anti-tank gunner. He was honorably discharged on January 28, 1947.
Mr. Voepel lived and worked in Manhattan as a writer for the Reinhold Publishing Company before moving to Stamford where he and his wife lived for 40 years. He became an advertising executive for Centcom, working there for 20 years before retiring in 1992. In 2010 he moved to Southbury where he resided at the Hearth and later the Watermark.
Robert and Pauline were well travelled throughout Europe, the US and Mexico. Robert was an avid gardener and a lover of classical music and art. More recently he spent many hours reading and loved a good glass of Riesling, especially in the company of family and friends.
Mr. Voepel is survived by his sister Lorraine (Voepel) Helfer; nieces Liann (Helfer) Kimball and Margaret (Helfer) Herlehy; nephew Walter V. Helfer; and 5 grandnieces. "Uncle Bob" will be missed by us all.
