Robert Lee Smith, 90, of Heritage Village, Southbury died at River Glen, on Monday September 26, 2011. He was the husband of Patricia (Wilkerson) Smith.
Mr. Smith was born September 27, 1920 in Moline, Michigan, the son of the late Fredrick and Pearl Smith. He had lived in Rye and Bedford, New York before moving to Southbury in 1995.
Mr. Smith served in the U.S. Navy for four years and attended George Washington University while serving in Washington D.C. Following the war he received a bachelor's degree and a master's degree from Columbia University in 1948.
He worked for IBM for 38 years in key positions in the Medical and Purchasing Departments and before retiring was an administrator in Corporate Manufacturing in Armonk, NY. In 1964 he worked on a special joint venture with Lou Harris and CBS News on the Presidential Elections.
He was a state vice president of the Junior Chamber of Commerce and later was active in the Kiwanis club. While in Southbury he was on the board of the Heritage Village Computer Club and a second trustee for Condo 2 and also served as its President. He was a member of the United Church of Christ in Southbury.
Besides his wife, he leaves two sons, Robert Smith Jr. and his wife, Diane, of North Salem, NY, David Smith and his wife, Donna, of Port Chester, NY, and two granddaughters, Lindsay and Margaret Smith and a grandson, Matthew Smith.

Services: A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 1, 2011 at 2pm at the United Church of Christ, 283 Main Street North, Southbury CT.
