SOUTHBURY — Longtime Southbury resident Robert Meisel, 93, died peacefully at home on November 28, 2020.

Born in New York City on October 29, 1927, the son of Herman and Hortense Meisel, Bob graduated from New York University with an engineering degree. After serving in the U.S. Navy, Bob spent his early career as an engineer with various organizations before joining IBM in 1960, where he worked in a number of management roles for 33 years, eight of which followed his "retirement" from the firm in 1985.

When he finally left IBM, he put his organizational and management skills to good use as an independent marketing consultant, longtime volunteer and board member of the Southbury Library and with the Connecticut Volunteer Services for the Blind and Handicapped.

Bob is survived by his wife of 70 years, Marie (Diamond); their sons, Ron of Brooklyn, N.Y., Paul and his wife, Cheryl Clark, of Newtown, Jim and Nancy Landeryou of Chandler, Ariz., Gary of Springfield, Ore.; his sister, Lila Barton of Birmingham, Ala.; his sister-in-law, Carol Diamond, and several nieces and nephews.

He was a devoted grandfather to Paul and Cheryl's sons Peter, and his wife, Liz, Alex and Andrew and his wife, Lauren, and a loving Papa Bob to great-grandson Riley.

An avid bridge, tennis and ping-pong player, Bob also enjoyed painting, sailing, his monthly lunches with his IBM ROMEO group and listening to jazz and classical music. And no family meal was complete without one of Bob's jokes, riddles or pop math or driving-skills quizzes.
