Robert Paul Guthrie Jr., 80 years old, of Woodbury CT, died March 29 2016 at River Glen Health Care Center in Southbury. He was born in Bessemer Alabama May 24, 1935, son of the late Robert Paul Guthrie Sr. and Anna Mae Hatfield(Guthrie). He graduated from Tyner High School in Chattanooga Tenn. And 1953 attended Univ. of Tenn. Knoxville for Engineering. He joined the Naval Aviation Cadet Program (Navcad) in Pensacola Florida and became a hurricane hunter pilot. Robert then became an airline pilot for Pan American World Airways in 1966 and flew with them for 25 years and eventually became Captain, retiring in 1991. He was married to Gail Ann Talbot in 1962 married 53 years. Besides his wife he is survived by three children, Robert Paul Guthrie III of Denver Colorado, Emily Ann Guthrie of Watertown CT, and John Talbot Guthrie of Keene, NH., four grandchildren, Laura Guthrie, Sean Niez, Madison Niez and Grace Guthrie. He is also survived by family in Tennessee, sister Mary Katherine Shirley, Anna Laurie Parker and Charles Guthrie, and many nieces and nephews.
Robert loved Aviation and in later years shared this with his sons and grandson. He loved to fish, garden and was a talented artist. He especially loved spending time with his grandchildren
