Mr. Robert J. Carroll, 88, of Southbury died Tuesday August 18, 2009 at River Glen Health Care Center in Southbury. He was the widower of Frances (Plassmann) Carroll.
Mr. Carroll was born September 12, 1920 in Cambridge, Massachusetts the son of the late James W. and Rose (McBride) Carroll. He was a US Army veteran serving during WWII in Australia, New Guinea and the Philippines. He was retired from Uniroyal International Tires, customer service, in Middlebury. He was a volunteer fireman in Scarsdale, NY and a member of the Usher Society at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Scarsdale, NY. Formerly of Heritage Village, Robert served as past President and Trustee of condo 7, also Cluster Captain and Grounds Representative. He was also active in the Heritage Village Theatre Guild and did the special lighting in Sarah Cook Hall for the women's club fashion show, the summer Songsters, the Heritage Village Songsters, all the plays for the Theatre Guild and the Heritage Village Sunday Concert Society and any others that required special lighting in the hall. He loved spending winters in Tahiti and Bora Bora.
He is survived by his two daughters Virginia Ann Hill and her husband Patrick Parrella of Milford and Mary F. Wagonhals, as well as two sister, Marie Burns and Elizabeth Carroll both of Massachusetts.
