SOUTHBURY-Richard E. Young, 65, of South Britain, passed away at his home on Wednesday, July 1st. Richard had been suffering from ALS, and is now at peace. He was born on January 1st, 1950 at Danbury Hospital, son of Ruth (Hanson) Young of Southbury, and the late Richard S. Young. He grew up in Brookfield where he graduated from Brookfield High School. After graduation, he enlisted in the Army, where he served for three years as an Avionics Communications repairman in Vietnam, until 1972. He worked most of his life as an auto and tractor trailer mechanic, his last place of employment being the Town of Southbury. He did carpentry, landscaping, and building models for hobbies, as well as being an avid reader. He was also a big fan of Nascar, going to many races, or watching every week on TV.
In addition to his mother, Richard is survived by a brother, Thomas Young of Danbury, two sisters, Joan Massey of Nebo, NC, and Nancy Spallone of Naugatuck, three nephews, two nieces, an aunt and several cousins. He was predeceased by a brother, Frank Young, and two sisters, Ruth Arbitelle and Jane Young. He will be terribly missed by his family and his many friends.

Services: A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, July 8th at 7: 00 pm at the Munson- Lovetere Funeral Home, 235 Main St. North, Southbury. Calling hours will be from 4: 00 pm until the time of the service.
