Richard C. Swift, 74, of Heritage Village, died suddenly on Sunday, September 19, 2010 at Waterbury Hospital after a long illness. He was the son of the late O. Thomas and Mildred Carson Swift and the loving husband of Martha Swift. After graduating from the University of New Hampshire in 1958, he began his career with Liberty Mutual Insurance Company. In 1981 he went with General Reinsurance in Stamford where he remained until he retired in 1998 as a Vice President of Claims at Signet Star, a Reinsurance subsidiary of General Reinsurance. Dick loved his family and his cottage on the lake in East Wakefield, NH. His family and friends had many good times there. He was an active member of the South Britain Congregational Church. Besides his wife he is survived by his daughter, Susan DeWitt and 3 grandchildren, Jennifer, Gregory and Steven; his son, David C. Swift and his wife Kerri and two grandchildren, Marissa and Carson; his brother Gene T. Swift and his wife Lynn of Grosse Ile, MI; his brother-in-law John Boardman and his wife Jan of Sarasota, FL and several nieces and nephews.

Services: A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 25 at 2: 00 p.m. at the South Britain Congregational Church 693 South Britain Road, South Britain.
