Woodbury- Richard Martin Swanson, 95, of Transylvania Road died Saturday, January 29, 2022 in his home.

Mr. Swanson was born August 8, 1926 in Waterbury, Connecticut, the son of the late Carl Oscar and Gunborg (Wahlstrom) Swanson.

From a young age, he enjoyed farming, fishing and hunting. He loved to shoot trap, play guitar and was a long-time member of the Bristol Fiddlers. He had worked at the Southbury Training School, and Danbury Regional Center.

He is survived by his nephew, Frederick Wilson of Maine, and two nieces, Carol Bacon of Woodbury and  Nancy Puskarczyk of Virginia, his great-nephew who has been managing his affairs, Fred Wilson, great-nieces, Brenda Ziegler of Wynantskill, NY, Lona Wilson of Torrington, CT and Mathew Wilson of Colorado. He also had one great-great nephew and two great-great nieces along with two great-great-great nephews and two great-great-great nieces.

A proud veteran of World War II, he had served with the Navy Seabees in Pearl Harbor, New Guinea, Admiralty Islands. He was awarded the American Theatre Ribbon, the Pacific Theatre Ribbon and Victory medal.
