Richard Lyon Rooney, 81, of Woodbury died Tuesday May 1, 2012 at Masonicare of Newtown. He was the husband of Ruth (Charbonneau) Rooney.
Mr. Rooney was born July 31, 1930 in Boston, MA., son of the late James Stewart and Ruth (Lyon) Rooney.
Rick was a US Army veteran serving as a military police officer. He was a Woodbury Police Officer for many years, a Woodbury Zoning Enforcement Officer and served as Woodbury's Fire Marshall for 26 years. Rick was a member of the CT. Fire Marshall Assn.,
A member of CT. Chapter of Int'l. Assn. of Arson Investigators, Deputy Chief and longtime member of the Woodbury Fire Dept., a lifetime member of the Woodbury Lions Club, Fishing Club of America and the NRA. Rick was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Woodbury where he volunteered at their annual fair and served as an usher for many years. He was presented the Bernard Rosenberg Award in 2011 in recognition of his outstanding service to the town of Woodbury.
In addition to his loving wife, he is survived by 2 sons, Bob Charbonneau and his wife Cathy of Hurley, WI, and Donn Charbonneau and his wife Judy of Washington, CT, 3 daughters, Jean Dawes and her husband Robert of Middlebury, CT, Linda Carlson and her husband Paul of Woodbury, CT and Karen Titcomb and her husband Brooks of Woodbury, CT, 19 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.

Services: A memorial service will be held at St. Paul's Church, Woodbury on Saturday May 5, 2012 at 10am. Burial will follow in New North Cemetery, Woodbury with full military honors.
