Richard L. Kahn

Southbury – Richard (Dick) Leon Kahn passed away on Friday, February 15, 2019 at River Glen Health Care Center in Southbury, CT after a long battle with Parkinson's disease.

Born in the Bronx on October 20, 1938, Dick was the eldest son of Julien L. and Signe (Anderson) Kahn.

Dick grew up in Queens, NY before moving to Mineola, NY where he attended high school.  He lived in Levittown, NY in an original Levitt house until 1975, when he moved to Carmel, NY.  In 2003 he moved to Southbury, CT.

He married Kathleen E. Liebeck on April 24, 1965.  He is survived by his wife Kathy of Southbury, CT, his son Donald Kahn and his wife Keri Peterson of Hopewell Junction, NY, his daughter Nancy Lama and granddaughters Sarah and Rebekah Lama of Southbury, CT, his sister Corrine Breil of Middletown, NY, brother Robert and his wife Linda Kahn of Dumfries, VA, and brother-in-law Frank and wife Barbara Liebeck of East Northport, NY.  Dick is also survived by many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends that were like family.   In addition to his parents, Dick was also predeceased by his brother-in-law William Breil.

Dick graduated from Nassau Community College where he studied Business Administration.  He worked for Home Insurance, Western Union International, WOR-AM-FM-TV, State Chemical Manufacturing and Dill's Best Building Center, from which he retired.

Dick was a charter member of the Carmel-Kent Lion's Club where he served as Secretary/Treasurer from 1980 to 1985, and also as club President from 1985 to 1986.  He was a District Governor for Lion's District 20-R1 of the Hudson Valley from 1997 to 1998.  Dick continued his love of service to Lions when he joined the Woodbury Lions Club after relocating to Southbury.  Dick also served as Committee Chairman for many years for Boy Scout Troop 1 of Carmel, NY.  He was a member of the Woodbury United Methodist Church and its Men's Club.

Dick was an avid reader of history, biographies, sports and he read every Louis L'Amour novel.  He also loved gardening; growing vegetables and flowers.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 13, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at the Woodbury United Methodist Church located at 4 Church St, Woodbury, CT 06798 followed by a luncheon in the Fellowship Hall.
