Obituary

Southbury-

Richard E. Evans passed away on June 11th, 2023. He was 82 years old. He died peacefully after a long illness, with his wife of 53 years, Marcia, by his side.

Rich was born in Brooklyn, NY, to Leonard and Agnes Evans. After attending Syosset High School, Rich graduated with a degree in mechanical engineering from Stevens Institute of Technology and later earned an MBA from UCONN. Rich worked for many years at Pratt and Whitney Aircraft in East Hartford, CT. Later, he enjoyed a career as a technology research analyst.

Rich loved projects. As a young man, he was part of a Formula Vee racing team. His love of tools ensured that there was usually some kind of home renovation or construction project in progress. He shared his creative ideas with friends and family and was always willing to lend a hand. He was a long-time member of the Southbury Democratic Town Committee, and in 2015 he was among those recognized by the town for their service.

He was a dedicated vacationer, whether at Silver Bay, NY, the White Mountains, the Traverse City Film Festival, or the south of France. He led the family on frequent trips to New York City. He loved visiting art museums and sharing his admiration of the Brooklyn Bridge, the Flatiron Building and Grand Central Station. It's still too early to tell if his life-long love of trains will be passed down to any of his grandchildren, but his many books on railroads certainly will!

Rich was an avid photographer and will live on through his pictures which hang in the homes of his extended family. He enjoyed dining out with family and friends. He played the piano, loved music, was a great dancer, and leaves behind a home filled with art books and jazz albums.

Rich will be greatly missed by many. He had a big laugh, a wry sense of humor and could add a clever quip to any conversation. He is survived by his wife, Marcia; his children: Cathy and Leslie; his grandchildren: Ingrid, Beatrix, Margot and Gabriel; his siblings: Judy and Paul; as well as nieces, nephews and close friends.

The family would like to thank the teams at Always Best Care and River Glen for their care and compassion. In lieu of a service, family and friends will hold a celebration of life at a later date.
