IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Richard A.
Bray
December 21, 1925 – February 27, 2015
Richard Bray, of Southbury, Connecticut, passed away peacefully in the early morning of February 27, 2015. He was 89 years young. He is survived by his wife, Nancy Northrop Bray, daughter Holly and her partner, Thomas Witherington, of Glastonbury, Connecticut, daughter Robin and her husband, David Nash, of Edgartown, Massachusetts, and his sisters, Doris Platt, of Southbury, Connecticut, and Jane Geiger, and her husband Gilbert, of Brewster, Massachusetts. The son of Albert and Grace Wells Bray, Richard was born in Cheshire, Connecticut, on December 21, 1925. He attended Hillhouse High School and began a career in manufacturing at the Acme Wire Company in New Haven. He married his wife Nancy and they lived in Cheshire with their daughters until 1968 when he moved the family to Southbury.
He was a man of great integrity, a quiet, thoughtful man, and an avid reader. He was a compassionate man who rescued, loved, and cared for many a stray. Above all, he was an outdoorsman and naturalist. He had great respect for wildlife and kept careful lists of birds he observed throughout his life. He was an accomplished fly fisherman and in his later years enjoyed saltwater fishing with his dear friend Arne Youngberg on Long Island Sound, and with his son-in-law David on Martha's Vineyard. His happiest days were spent tying flies and casting for stripers, blues, albies and bonito and his graceful fly cast was admired by all who observed him.
Our father instilled his love of the natural world, concern for the environment and compassion for all creatures in us, his daughters, for which we will always be grateful. We could not be prouder or more blessed to have had you as our father. Dad, we wish you tight lines and albie dreams.
