Raymond J. Jones, 72, of Heritage Village, Southbury, died peacefully November 30, 2012. Mr. Jones was born April 10, 1940, and was the son of the late Raymond Reese and Mary Sheridan Reese Jones. He served in the United States Navy from 1958-1962. During this time he served in the Navy Engineman Third Class as a diesel mechanic on the Icebreaker U.S.S. Glacier A G B 4. The Glacier and her crew were awarded the commendation for exceptional service in exploratory and research work in the Antarctic during the 1960 Operation Deep Freeze. He received the Good Conduct Metal, Navy Unit Commendation Ribbon and Antarctic Service Medal. He also served in the United States Army from 1963-1966 as Specialist Five and in Vietnam from 1965-1966.He worked at IBM in Southbury until his retirement. Mr. Jones was a member of the South Britain Congregational Church and a member of the I.U.O.E. Local 30 Union.
He is survived by his loved ones Darlene Valluzzo, Stacy Valluzzo, Kelly Bambino and grandsons Travis and Dylan Bambino.
Services were held privately. The Southbury funeral home of Munson-Lovetere, 235 Main Street North is in charge of arrangements.
