Obituary

On May 15, 2025, Peter crossed the finish line of life. At 83, the boy from Katonah, NY, via Clarkson University and Woodbury, CT ended his ultimate adventure.

Born Peter Van Rensselaer Schuyler on July 24, 1941 in Greenwich, CT, he was the son of Louise Ann Barnick & Cornelius William Schuyler.  Peter grew up in Katonah, NY where he played basketball, conducted rocket launches, developed his love of chemistry, and was the soccer goalie for John Jay High School in Cross River NY from which he graduated in 1959.

After high school he pursued higher education at Clarkson University, where he not only earned his bachelor's degree but was in the first class to achieve a master's degree in the institution's history. Though he briefly dipped his toes into the corporate world with Uniroyal in Naugatuck, CT, the call of entrepreneurship beckoned. In 1974, he founded his own company, Ambion Corporation, a venture to which he dedicated his life with fervor, creativity and integrity.

Life's journey led Peter to marry Suzanna Hawley Brown, with whom he welcomed two daughters: Kristin in 1969 and Mieke in 1971. After a time, that chapter concluded, and Peter later found love again with Barbara Virbila Lockwood, embracing the role of stepfather to Leonard, Lorri, John, and Alison, adding another layer of cherished memories to his life.

For the last 45 years, Woodbury CT has been home to Peter, where he created a legacy of laughter, adventure, and love. His wry smile and quick wit illuminated his surroundings, and he embarked on remarkable adventures to Alaska, Newfoundland, New Orleans, Key West and Maine, each trip a gift to his fellow travelers and a testament to his thirst for knowledge and exploration.

Peter is predeceased by his parents and his wife Bobbi and stepson Lenny.  Surviving are his children: Kristin Schuyler Stuart of Marcellus NY and Mieke Schuyler of Woodbury CT and his step children Alison Hayes of Torrington CT, John Lockwood (Christine) of Monroe CT and Lorri Monterose (Thomas) of Mooresville NC.  Also surviving are 10 grandchildren.
