Bethlehem- Mr. Paul Michael Molzon, a legend in his time, passed away at his home in Bethlehem on Wednesday, July 19, 2023. As he proudly declared to all he met, he was 92 years old.
Husband of the late Joan Molzon, Paul is survived by his son, Michael Paul Molzon, and daughter, Judy Molzon DiCenzo, daughter-in-law, Marcy Molzon, son-in-law, David DiCenzo and close family friend Rose DiBiase, as well as grandchildren, Emily DiCenzo MacGlaflin, Dylan MacGlaflin, Jacob DiCenzo, Nicholas Molzon, Samantha Molzon and great grandchildren, James and Meadow MacGlaflin.
Paul was born in Waterbury, CT on November 26, 1930, to Michael and Mary "Mame" Molzon, proprietors of the Bank Street Hotel and Apartments, Dutch Oven Restaurant and Buckingham Business Building and Dance Hall. Paul love to recount the charmed days of his childhood, having a hotel for a home and a restaurant for his meals!
After high school, Paul joined the United States Navy and served as a ship's plumber on the aircraft carrier U.S.S. Antietam (CV-36) based in New York City.
Following his enlistment, Paul started his own plumbing and heating business and married "Joanie" in 1955. They settled in Bethlehem, where Paul became an active member of the community, serving on several committees and organizations including the Bethlehem Fire Department, serving as a Past Chief, and the Bethlehem Lions Club.
His passion for all things automotive gave him decades of enjoyment as a stock car, NASCAR and antique car enthusiast. He was a devoted member of the Southern New York Racing Association, and proudly worked as a track crew member at the Danbury Race Arena for many years.
In 1970, his business acumen extended to his purchase of a commercial and residential investment property, which he successfully managed with his sister Evelyn for 34 years. After 27 years of being in the plumbing and heating business, Paul was hired as the Director of Building and Grounds for Regional School District #14, where he spent 18 years until his retirement.
Paul's love of travel let him experience many national and international excursions, including the final transatlantic voyages of both The Queen Mary and The Queen Elizabeth II. Paul was larger than life and loved to laugh, and make others laugh. He lived an amazing life.
Friends may pay their respects to Paul's family on Saturday, July 22, from 10am to 12 pm at the Woodbury Funeral Home of Munson- Lovetere, 2 School Street. A short service will be held at Noon. Burial to follow at the Bethlehem Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Bethlehem Fire Department, 26 Main St. South or the Bethlehem Ambulance, 83 Main St. South, in Paul's memory.
