IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Paul J.
Meyer
April 5, 1929 – April 16, 2014
Paul J. Meyer, 85, of Southbury, CT, entered into eternal rest on April 16, 2014, in the comfort of his home surrounded by his loving family. His beautiful wife of almost 50 years, Gloria Maria (DeFina) Meyer awaits him in heaven.
Paul Meyer was born on April 5, 1929, the ninth of ten children born to Godfrey and Ella (Pinsonneault) Meyer, of Clifton, NJ. Paul and his five brothers served proudly during WWII and the Korean Conflict. He was stationed in Guam and Camp Lejeune while serving in the Marine Corp, and rose to the rank of Sergeant. Paul was predeceased by his brothers, Godfrey O.S.B., George, John, Ted, Robert, and his sisters Catherine, Mary, and Edith. He is survived by his youngest sibling, Sister Margaret Mary Meyer O.P. of Caldwell, NJ.
After leaving the service, Paul graduated from Fordham University in 1953 with a degree in Physics. He joined Remington Arms in Bridgeport, CT, where he met his met his wife Gloria, whom he married in 1955. He worked in a number of management positions throughout his 35 year career, including the development of their new plant in Lonoke, AR. After 6 years in Arkansas, Paul and Gloria returned to Connecticut and settled in Brookfield to raise their growing family. In their later years, Paul and Gloria were welcomed into the Southbury home of his son Tom and daughter-in-law Christy, and their loving family.
Paul's greatest loves were his faith, his family, and his country. He was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather who spent most of his life in service to his family. Nothing brought him more joy than attending endless sporting events and performances of his grandchildren. He was a proud fan of countless recitals, ballets, and concerts, and many basketball, football, volleyball, lacrosse, field hockey, soccer, baseball and softball games as well as swimming, diving and track meets. He enjoyed many trips to Susquehanna University and Lynchburg College. He loved singing and would often join his granddaughter on stage at many of the local nursing homes. He loved classical music, the New York Mets and was a proud supporter and fundraiser for Food for the Poor. He was deeply devoted to his Catholic faith, and for years sang in the St. Marguerite choir in Brookfield. He attended daily Mass and rosary group at Sacred Heart Church in Southbury, where he continued to attend Mass with his family.
He is survived by four sons and one daughter. Richard, and his wife Susan of Woodbury, and their children Sara Feola and her husband, Lance, and Julie; Nancy (Langrock) of Southbury, and her husband Chris, and their children Sherry, Jeff and Jenny; Robert, and his wife Nancy of Watertown, and their son Mark; Thomas, and his wife Christy, of Southbury, and their children, Michelle, Paul, Mathew, TJ and Rebecca; and Jeffrey and his wife Siobhan, of Southbury, and their children Catrina, Gregory, Michaela, and Allison.
We would like to acknowledge the incredibly loving and compassionate care Paul has received from his caregivers. They have blessed our family over the past several years more than we can express.
