Southbury- Patricia Joy, a cherished librarian, writer, and devoted advocate for the arts, passed away peacefully on January 25, 2026. Patricia lived a life enriched by knowledge, curiosity, and a passion for history, leaving behind a legacy that will continue to inspire those who knew her. She is survived by her beloved nephew, Larry Gusmano, who will hold her memory close.
Patricia earned her master’s degree in library science, dedicating her professional life to fostering a love of reading and learning within her community. A talented writer, she contributed several insightful articles to the Litchfield County Times and the Waterbury Republican American, where she shared her deep admiration for Miss Caroline "Carrie" Welton, a celebrated artist, animal advocate, mountain climber, and philanthropist from Connecticut's 19th century. Patricia's work not only illuminated Welton's remarkable achievements but also demonstrated her commitment to preserving history and advocating for the arts.
She was predeceased by her brother, Francis "Frank" Joy, in February 2019, a loss that deeply affected her.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Southbury, on Tuesday, July 28, 2026, at 10:00 AM, where friends, family, and community members are invited to celebrate Patricia’s life. Following the service, inurnment will take place in the family plot at Mount Olivet Cemetery, Watertown.
