Obituary

Mrs. Paraskewa Jakowlew, 90, of Southbury, always referred to as Pasha and gram to all who loved her, died Tuesday December 16th at Danbury Hospital. She was the widow of Igor Jakowlew who passed away in 1984.
Pasha was born October 10, 1918 in Russia a daughter of the late Alexander and Florence (Chernekov) Kalenikowa. She was a woman who stood strong and held her family and friends together. She leaves behind many lives touched simply by her gracious smile and loving heart. She always had words of wisdom and strength. Her absence in all the lives she touched can never be replaced and her loving and giving spirit will forever be embraced.
Pasha's parents were killed in the war and she was left at a young age to raise her brothers and sisters. She escaped from a concentration camp where she was held for many years. The hardship continued as people fought for food and this gave them the determination to build a new life in America. Pasha and Igor met in Germany and were married there in 1943 before fleeing to NYC in 1949.
They both worked desperately to save money to purchase property next to the Russian Village in Southbury. They then started selling eggs from over 3,000 chickens they raised at their chicken farm. Pasha worked at Southbury Training School for over 20 years , where she was known as "Jackie" before retiring. Pasha continued to care for her family and still shoveled snow in her late 80's. A few years ago she was diagnosed with congestive heart failure. During her illness she remained at home and was cared for by her grandson. Though struggling, she was always strong spirited. Pasha continued to work around the house, keeping all in order. Words could never describe Pasha, she truly stood tall, holding a light for all.
She is survived by a grandson Chris Cole and a great-grandson Kanon R.Cole.
