OLIVE B. BURKS
SOUTHBURY- Olive Bernedete (Methé©) Burks, 84 of 102A Heritage Village, died Sunday, September 3, 2006 at 98 Todd Hill Rd. Bethlehem. She was the wife of the late Burton Bray Burks.
Mrs. Burks was born October 1, 1921 in Greenwich, Ct, daughter of the late Harry A. and Ella Gertrude (Kennedy) Methé©. She was a practical nurse for 12 years, having worked at Greenwich Hospital and Nurses Aid at Norwalk hospital for 12 years. Mrs. Burks was an active member and charter president of the State Opera Guild in Stamford in the early 70's. She was a long standing member of the Quartette Club of Norwalk and sang in their choral group. She resided in Norwalk for 28 years, Woodbury for 18 years and Southbury for 6 years. While in Woodbury, Olive was an active member of the Washington Senior Center and a communicant of Sacred Heart Church.
Olive established the annual B.B. Memorial Golf Tournament in Norwalk for her late husband, who died in 1968 in a plane crash while working for Perkin-Elmer Co. of Norwalk.
She leaves two sons, Terry W. Burks and his wife Connie of New Preston, CT and Burton "Buz" Burks of New Milford, three daughters, Barbara "Bonnie" Norris and her husband Ken of Barnet, VT, formerly of Woodbury, Beverly L. Cascia and her husband Steve of Norwalk and Linda M. Rao and her husband Bob of Livermore, California, a brother Robert Methé© of Naples, FL formerly of Norwalk and a sister Hazel Methé© Hall of Bradenton, FL formerly of Shatagay, NY and 11 grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
Predeceased by a brother, Herbert Methé© of Greenwich and N. Hampton, MA and a sister Lucile Sobocinski of Danbury.
She was predeceased by a granddaughter, Meghan Elizabeth Burks, New Preston, CT.
Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
