Norman A. Fagerquist, 87, of Southbury, died Friday, January 15, 2010 at the River Glen Health Care Center in Southbury. He was the husband of Barbara Kurzrok and was pre-deceased by his first wife, Eleanor Mullin Fagerquist. Mr. Fagerquist was born October 12, 1922 in Auburn, Mass., son of the late Henry and Judy Fagerquist. He received his bachelor's of science degree from the Hyannis Teacher's College in Cape Cod and his master's degree from NYU. He enlisted in the Air Force in 1942 and was stationed in Italy. He held the rank of 2nd Lt. and was a navigator and bombardier, flying bombing missions into Germany with the 459th Bomber Squadron. He was awarded the Service Medal with 3 oak leaf clusters, and was discharged in 1945. Mr. Fagerquist taught in the Thomaston School System until 1961 when he was appointed the first principal of the Southbury High School, retiring in 1980. He helped with the planning of the new Pomperaug High School which opened in 1980. He was a member and past Worshipful Master of King Solomon's Masonic Lodge # 7, A.F. & A.M. in Woodbury. Besides his wife of 20 years, he is survived by a daughter, Jan Fagerquist of California; a brother, Fred Fagerquist of West Boylston, Mass.; 3 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild. He was pre-deceased by his son, Lee Fagerquist.

Location: Munson-Lovetere Southbury
Services: A memorial service will be held Sunday, January 17 at 2: 30 p.m. at the Southbury Funeral Home of Munson-Lovetere, 235 Main St. North.
Visitation: Friends may call at the funeral home Sunday, from 1: 30 p.m. until the time of the service.
