IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Nona M.
Crane
November 22, 1920 – November 17, 2013
Nona Cecilia Moise Crane
Nona C. Crane, of Heritage Village Southbury, died peacefully in her home on November 17, 2013 with her loving husband Bob at her side. Just days before her 93rd birthday and 61st wedding anniversary, both on November 22nd, Nona leaves her family with fond memories of her feisty and fun-loving spirit.
Born in Shreveport, Louisiana to the late Allyn B. and Edith Moore Moise, Nona was forever a Southern belle with adventure in her heart. In 1944, while in her early twenties, she enlisted in the United States Coast Guard, serving as Yeoman 3rd Class, and travelling the world, which she greatly enjoyed. After her honorable discharge in 1946, she returned to New York, where she met the man who would become the love of her life, Robert Crane, Jr. of Larchmont New York. The two married in 1952, and moved to Santa Barbara California where they began a family. They eventually relocated to Westport Connecticut in 1964, where they lived for 20 years and raised their four children. Nona and Bob moved several more times, including to Wilmington North Carolina, San Leandro California, and finally, Southbury Connecticut where they have lived since 2005.
Besides travelling, Nona enjoyed being outdoors in her garden, and finding "treasures" with her metal detector. She had a keen sense of humor and loved to laugh. She was an avid reader, a huge tennis fan, an expert jigsaw puzzler, and she never missed her nightly glass of wine. In addition to her husband, Nona will be sadly missed by her son Robert Crane III and his wife, Karen of Trumbull, CT; daughter Andrea Krawczuk and her husband, John of San Leandro, CA; and twin sons Douglas M. Crane and his wife, Rita of Norwalk, CT and Stuart M. Crane and his wife, Rebecca of Torrence, CA. She was blessed with nine grandchildren - Ryan, Daniel, Monica, Lena, Kyle, Melissa, Schuyler, Fletcher, and Emily; and one great-grandchild, Annabella. She also leaves two step-children, Duncan W. Crane and his wife Barbara of Southampton, MA and Betsy Valle of Portland, OR, and their children and grandchildren. She is predeceased by her parents, and two brothers, Allyn Jr. and Theodore Moise.
Her family would like to give a special thanks to her compassionate and dedicated caregivers - Cheryl, Camille, and Eduardo - who provided her with friendship, comfort and dignity through the very last day of her life.
